The metal armature has been
meticulously designed and fabricated for absolute strength and is well
embedded and fastened into the body of the horse and laminated rockers,
making the structure incredibly strong for the rider. The highly
polished stainless steel pole gives the horse a notion of a
contemporary carousel horse.
The beautiful bow rockers
are constructed individually to accommodate each horse, using the
finest joinery methods. The rockers are fitted and spoke
shaved to cant inwards, in order to dramatically increase overall
stability.
Once the carving is
completed, each horse undergoes a specialised painting process spanning
several weeks. Clare Nicholson has worked for years as an exhibiting
painter, and she uses her painterly skills to produce a highly
professional, stunning finish.
Up to fifteen layers of
finest quality paints and traditional translucent glazes are applied,
allowing a subtle build up of vibrant colours to shine through,
mimicking old oil paintings on canvas. A tough transparent outer layer
then protects the paint.
Clare carefully designs and
makes the saddlery specifically for the character of each horse. A
fiery horse may require a running martingale, whilst a friendlier pony
a straightforward snaffle bridle! All tack is hand stitched using the
finest hand dyed leather to compliment the colour of the individual
horse. Fashioned stirrup irons and bits, inspired by historical equine
images, have been replicated and hand cast in bronze.
